Vice Admiral Pradeep Chauhan is the Director-General of the National Maritime Foundation (NMF), New Delhi, which is India’s foremost resource centre for the development and advocacy of strategies for the promotion and protection of the country’s maritime interests. He took up his current assignment in August of 2017, after a very distinguished rich and varied four-decade-long career in the Indian Navy, which has included, amongst several prestigious command tenures at sea and ashore, the command of India’s sole aircraft carrier of its time, the Viraat. As the first Assistant Chief of the Naval Command for Foreign Cooperation and Intelligence, he was the architect of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS). He has been chief of Staff of the Western Naval Command, and later, held command of the Indian Naval Academy (INA)— our navy’s state-of-the-art officer-training academy. He been honoured thrice by the President of India for the sustained excellence of his service. Not one to rest on his laurels, he has remained extremely active and in the decade since his retirement, has established an enviable degree of international renown as an incisive strategic analyst and a prolific writer on maritime and strategic issues, with over 100 published articles and research-papers to his credit. He is also a much sought-after leadership mentor in India and abroad.
