Rear Admiral (JG) !Gonteb enlisted in 1994 to be one of the pioneers for the Namibian Navy. The Admiral served as a Personal Staff Officer to the Deputy Maritime Wing Commander, Commissioning Executive Officer of the first War Ship of the Namibian Navy Corvette NS DIMO HAMAAMBO, served as Commissioning (first) Commanding Officer (Captain) of the first Patrol vessel NS BRENDAN SIMBWAYE. He served in staff appointments as inter alia Chief of Naval Staff Personnel, Chief of Naval Staff Operations at the Navy HQs, Military Adviser to the Navy Commander and Chief of the Namibian Defence Force, Defence Attaché and now currently the Deputy Navy Commander. Rear Admiral (JG) !Gonteb has completed his Junior Staff Course, Senior Staff Course and NDC. The Admiral graduated with a BSc and MSc Degrees in Naval Sciences from the Brazilian Naval Academy and Brazilian Naval War College respectively. The Admiral have obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration Majoring in Project Management from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPEAD). The Admiral is decorated with various Defence and Foreign medals and was promoted to his current Rank in September 2020.
